Northwest Working Breed Rescue

Owner Surrender

We know the decision to rehome a dog can be difficult. NWWBR is a foster-based rescue with limited capacity, so owner-surrender requests are reviewed individually and submission does not guarantee that we can accept your dog.

01

Tell us about your dog

We start with a detailed questionnaire covering history, routine, medical care, training, behavior, compatibility, and the reason or deadline for rehoming.

02

Initial review

We consider safety, urgency, medical needs, foster capacity, and whether our foster-based program is an appropriate fit.

03

Behavior evaluation when needed

If NWWBR approves moving forward with an evaluation, ZenDog Seattle may complete a behavioral assessment. The evaluation is arranged after our initial review and is at the owner’s expense.

04

Placement plan

If we accept the surrender but do not have an open foster, the owner may need to continue fostering the dog until a rescue foster becomes available or the dog is adopted.

What we will ask about

Please be candid. Good information helps everyone.

  • Reason for surrender and any deadline
  • Origin, ownership history, and daily routine
  • Veterinary history, vaccines, medications, and records
  • House training, crate training, and separation behavior
  • Reactivity, guarding, escapes, bites, or aggression
  • Responses to adults, children, dogs, cats, livestock, and small animals
  • Training history, exercise, equipment, and management
  • Photos and videos that help us understand the dog
Can your dog stay with you while you rehome?

Home To Home may be a faster, lower-stress option.

Home To Home connects owners directly with prospective adopters so pets can move from one home to another without entering a shelter or rescue foster system.
